about

14 Original Songs
(The first and last track omitted from streaming)
Total Length= 57:22

This collection of music first debuted to a reception of less than ten people, without a name or album cover, and for several years afterwards it remained non-existent. When the summer of 2008 dawned, Hikele found himself graduated from highschool and preparing to pack up and leave home towards his next destination of Toronto. This album precedes Kaleb Hikele’s solo musical avenue, recording and performing under the pseudonym “The Sun Harmonic” from 2009 to the present day…

After his musical output in 2007 with rock-trio The Capitol and two of his own solo releases, he found himself with more than a dozen pieces of music written for an unplanned and undecided record to come. Through two consistent weeks in July, Hikele disappeared into his basement bedroom to setup a makeshift recording studio, with a Boss BR-1600, a pair of headphones, one guitar amp, one keyboard and one microphone. He began to build a foundation for the entire record with no real direction in sound or genre, while this open ended approach lead to an experimental and spontaneous creation of the unbranded, untitled, and soon to be unheard, record of 2008.

The finished work shows a variety of inspirations and voices, with progressive rock and folk edges, punk and reggae rhythms, and multi-instrumental facets for the musician. Playing piano, drums, guitars and singing, this collection of recorded music is a foreshadowing to the later developed recording style of “The Sun Harmonic” records, where all you hear sonically appears to be a band, but is infact all Kaleb Hikele playing to accompany himself. The interesting part of this record, aside from its extreme absence in the world for years after it was created, is that the original recording sessions have since been erased and completely lost, leaving only the two-track masters behind. The left and right stereo mixes that were originally bounced down in 2008 are all that remain of the 14-track, two-week, musical indulgence that Kaleb Hikele undividedly crafted at the age of 18. Now the music exists for you to hear and adventure into.
